The Governing Council and the Management Board of the African Legal Support Facility met in Abidjan on May 24 and 25, 2015 on the sidelines of the African Development Bank Annual Meetings to review the Facility’s programmatic work and deliberate on considerations for future strategic engagements.

The governments of Ghana and Togo signed on 12 December 2014 a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of an African Water Facility -supported pipeline to bring drinking water from the lower Volta River in Ghana to the city of Lomé in Togo and the Ghanaian communities along the water transfer route. The AWF has offered a €1.4 million grant to Ghana to support the technical, legal and financial preparation of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project.

The Management Board of the African Legal Support Facility (“ALSF” or “the Facility”) wound up a two-day meeting on November 27, 2014 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with the approval of the Facility’s Work Plan and Budget for 2015 and the adoption of substantive documents for transmission to the ALSF Governing Council.  
“The two-day meeting in Abidjan was vital. We see it as an opportunity to exercise our oversight and advisory role over the Facility. In addition, we are able to assess the progress made and share perspectives on the future of the Facility.” Board members said.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday, May 19 signed a grant agreement to provide the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) with financial support in the amount of US $3.0 million over a three-year period under the US Power Africa Initiative.
The grant agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) in Kigali, Rwanda, by USAID’s Assistant Administrator for Africa, Earl Gast, and ALSF Director, Stephen Karangizi.
